Ready-to-eat
ITC Kitchens of India
On
a hot summer’s day at Odriew Restaurant:
Mr. and Mrs. Jagannath saunter in
to the restaurant on a hot and sunny afternoon. They have been identified for a
prank in jest by the management and ITC
Kitchens of India.
Uma Jagannath motions to the waiter
to take the orders. “Can you make it snappy; we’re very hungry.” The waiter
assures her that he will and then adds as if as an afterthought that today’s
specialty is yesterday’s leftovers…
The
story continues…
… yesterday’s leftovers at
tomorrow’s prices.
“Excuse me”, a bewildered Uma replies,
“What does that mean?”
“You see,” replies the waiter a tad
impatiently, as to a child, “We do not waste any food out here and we also charge
20 per cent over and above today’s prices for yesterday’s food.”
Uma blurts out before her husband
can speak: “But that’s baasi food!” (Tsk, tsk)
The waiter smiles knowingly. “Precisely.
That’s why it is so special. You see,” he adds further,” nothing is wasted
around here. Not even the leftovers from joottha plates. It is all collected,
put in the respective bowls, heated and served hot. Nobody can tell the
difference.” He smiles at the brilliance of the idea…”Taste it and see for
yourself? I’m not lying!” (Hee-haw!)
Speechless with shock, Uma gets up
to leave this God-forsaken place, when the manager arrives and smiles
nervously.
Problems?
Uma unable to bear it lets loose a tirade, all
of which is recorded and uploaded on YouTube. (Oh, dear!)
The manager profusely apologizes
and says that a joke had been played on them by the management and ITC Kitchens of India. And if they would
be so kind as to have a seat a meal fit for the Gods would be set before them.
And no, we do not serve baasi food, ever.
Suitably mollified, the couple
enjoy their meal, and, before leaving, are gifted a hamper of Kitchens of India with best compliments
from the management and ITC Kitchens of
India.
Namaskaar.
Have
a nice day.
